Ketchikark was rescued by the four, with Jin, from the clutches of a group of mites who apparently intended to eat him. Once they were slain, he showed few compunctions about doing the same to the mites, and for this among other reasons the four decided that the society of the tengu might be a more fruitful place to look for answers than among the kobolds.

Since then, Ketchikark has accompanied the group as a prisoner. Despite the apparent enmity between kobolds and tengu, Jin has requested that the four keep Ketchikark alive, believing the kobold to be of some spiritual significance.
